General Company Policy

To ensure that all information about the dangers of all hazardous chemicals used by____________________________  (name of shop) are known by all affected employees, this hazard communication program has been established. All work units will participate in the program and a copy of it will be available to all employees in this organization.

 

Container Labeling

_______________________________ (name of person responsible for this task), will verify that all containers received for use will be clearly labeled as to their contents, have an appropriate hazard warning, and list the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor.

 

Material Safety Data Sheets

________________________________ (name of person responsible for this task), MSDS Coordinator, is responsible for establishing and monitoring the company's MSDS program, reviewing them for significant health and safety information. Affected employees will be informed of any new information.

When revised MSDS's are received the following procedures will be followed to replace obsolete MSDS's: MSDS coordinator will match up new ones against the ones kept in the three ring binders. Old ones will be removed from the three ring binders and replaced with new/updated ones.

 

Employee Training and Information

___________________________________ (name of person responsible for this task), is responsible for the company's employee training program. He/She will ensure that all program elements specified below are implemented.

Prior to starting work, each new employee will attend a health and safety orientation that includes:

• An overview of the requirements of OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard.

• Hazardous chemicals present at his/her workplace.

• Physical and health risks of these hazardous chemicals.

• The symptoms of overexposure.

• How to determine the presence or release of hazardous chemicals in his/her work area.

• How to reduce or prevent exposure to hazardous chemicals through the use of control procedures, work practices and personal protective equipment.

• Steps the company has taken to reduce or prevent exposure to hazardous chemicals.

• Procedures to follow if employees are overexposed to hazardous chemicals.

• How to read labels and review MSDS's to obtain hazard information.

• Location of the MSDS file an the companies written hazard communication program.

Prior to introducing a new chemical hazard into any area, each employee in that area will be given information and training as described above for the new chemical hazard.
